Tour of the Fracking industry in Taranaki
Taranaki is a front-line community in the struggle for climate justice in Aotearoa, like other communities facing fracking around the world.
The oil and gas industry has had a heavy presence in the Taranaki region for many decades. However, only in the past several years has fracking (hydraulic fracturing) become an overwhelming issue for the region.
Oil Free Wellington is stoked to be able to offer Wellingtonian’s a chance to visit Taranaki, to see and understand the damage happening firsthand, and to show solidarity with the community, who for years have fought the oil and gas industry.
Oil Free Wellington is planning a 2 day trip to Taranaki from the 13th-15th of May. We will be leaving central Wellington (location to be confirmed) at 5.30pm on Friday the 13th and returning at 4.30pm on Sunday the 15th.
