Tour of the Fracking industry in Taranaki

Taranaki is a front-line community in the struggle for climate justice in Aotearoa, like other communities facing fracking around the world.
The oil and gas industry has had a heavy presence in the Taranaki region for many decades. However, only in the past several years has fracking (hydraulic fracturing) become an overwhelming issue for the region.
Oil Free Wellington is stoked to be able to offer Wellingtonian’s a chance to visit Taranaki, to see and understand the damage happening firsthand, and to show solidarity with the community, who for years have fought the oil and gas industry.
Oil Free Wellington is planning a 2 day trip to Taranaki from the 13th-15th of May. We will be leaving central Wellington (location to be confirmed) at 5.30pm on Friday the 13th and returning at 4.30pm on Sunday the 15th.

On Saturday, and possibly Sunday morning we will have a guided tour of both North and South Taranaki by grassroots groups resisting the oil and gas industry in the area. This will be a fantastic opportunity to see the the fracking and processing sites in the region and hear stories from the community of the impact of this destructive industry.
We will be organising shared accommodation (likely cabins or similar), transport there and back and meals. Please bring snacks for the trip and any personal items you need.
This trip will cost Oil Free Wellington around $120 per person to put on. Koha to help us put on this trip would be very kindly appreciated. Contribution is by sliding scale according to what you can afford.
